At their creative best

'Yuvtarang'

The enthusiasm and energy of 500-odd students was palpable during ‘Yuvtarang’, a one-day youth fest held at the Indian Academy Degree College. The first-of-its-kind youth festival in the City drew a good response with more than 30 colleges participating in full strength. The college management did well in limiting the number of events for this seemed to have worked well among the students who participated in all the events.

Winning or losing was secondary and all that mattered to them was to fall in line with the spirit of participation. Among the events were group song, group dance, mad ads, adaptune and fashion show.

The event also had a few Sandalwood stars walk in to cheer up the crowd. The trailers of Kannada films ‘Mandya to Mumbai’ and ‘Benki Patna’ were released on the occasion.

Among all the events, mad ads, ‘adaptune’ and the fashion show drew the maximum numbers of participants. Mad ads had the students conceive, design and market a product created by them. And they left no stone unturned to exploit their creativity. While the main stage was taken over by fashion show, music and dance events, a food fest complete with every conceivable dish also attracted a lot of attention. The proceeds of the food fest was later donated to ‘Infant Jesus School’, a home for children infected with HIV.

Putting the fest together has been a learning experience for the students. They said that this experience gave them the confidence to manage multiple things at the same time.

Said Adhma Abdulla, a native of Maldives, “I was a part of the team that worked for the food fest. I was happy that my hard work would help the children in need. I understood how competitive it is to churn out a good product,” he said.

Naeim Ahmed, another arts student and a native of Afghanistan, said, “This fest makes you ready for the real world because there’s so much planning, conceptualising and implementing necessary to put an event together,” he said.

Namitha Bopanna, a student of commerce, said, “I never thought I would participate in any of the events but when I came here, I couldn’t resist the urge to participate in as many events as I could. It’s been great all through. And the team effort was the best part of organising the fest.”
