Constable shot dead as he opens door to let brother in

Last Updated 18 January 2015, 03:29 IST

A 27-year-old Delhi Police constable was shot dead in his house in outer Delhi’s Narela by three men. Jeetender Khatri was shot late on Friday.

He succumbed to injuries in the wee hours of Saturday. Two of the accused have been identified by police, but no arrest has been made so far.

Jeetender was posted with the RTI cell of Civil Lines police station in north Delhi. Police said he was shot when he opened the front door of the house in Marmurpur to let his brother Sandeep in.

Sandeep is a property dealer in the area and had returned home at 10 pm on Friday.

“As Jeetender opened the door, three men came running toward them and opened fire. Jeetender was hit in the abdomen,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh said. He was taken to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital by family members, and was later referred to Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh.

He underwent an emergency surgery, but died at 3 am on Saturday. After initial probe, investigating officers suspect it to be an attack over personal enmity. Police are questioning Jeetender’s family members and friends.

Police have also identified two of the attackers. One of them is a man named Samunder, who has criminal history. Police suspect that Sandeep was the target of the attackers.

Since Sandeep is a property dealer, he was involved in some dispute with other property dealers. The call data records of Jeetender and Sandeep have been analysed.

Cops look for clues

“We are ascertaining the motive behind the attack, and have questioned a few people named by Sandeep. The investigating officers have narrowed down on some suspects,” Singh added.

A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act has been registered with Narela police station.

The incident comes days after a 29-year-old Delhi Police constable was shot dead by two members of a liquor mafia in outer Delhi’s Alipur. The two bootleggers were arrested after a raid at a nearby village on Wednesday.
