Two persons, including a woman, were killed and 16 others grievously injured when a crude bomb went off on the Ara civil court premises on Friday.

The woman, who was carrying the bomb in a bag, died on the spot.

Top police officials have, however, denied that the blast had any terror or Maoist link. “Nor was she (the unidentified woman) a human bomb,” said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Gupteshwar Pandey.

“Prima facie, it appears that the woman was made to carry the crude bomb to escape the police's dragnet. The bomb was being carried to cause a blast and help some prisoners escape,” he added.

The police, meanwhile, got an initial breakthrough when it located the mobile phone of the woman who was carrying the bomb.
“We have got some leads about the woman, but it won’t be right to reveal her identity, as investigation in the case is going on,” said a senior official posted in Ara.

Meanwhile, security in and around Patna’s court premises have been beefed up.

“In view of Saraswati Puja and the Republic Day, we have asked the superintendents of police in all the districts to keep a strict vigil. We have also asked the Gaya administration to beef up security near Mahabodhi temple,” said Bihar DGP P K Thakur.
