“I was part of the Karnataka squad that clinched the junior national title in 1979,” said Andrew on the eve of their semifinal clash against Mizoram on Friday. “Now I want to taste it as a coach too. I also want my young lads experience the taste of victory.”

“Most of our core group are fit and we have already worked out a strategy to counter Mizoram. I am really confident the young lads will put up a good show tomorrow,” added the former ITI player, who is one of the two coaches, the other being Saravanan.

Barring the quarterfinal league first round loss to Punjab, Karnataka have convincing in their performances on their home turf. They beat Gujarat and Haryana in the league stage before defeating Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu to secure their last four berth. While Vinoth Kumar has top-scored for the State with four goals, handy contributions have come in from the other strikers too.

"We are hoping for the best. We are two steps away from glory and we want tread it cautiously," said Andrew.
