Hyderabad varsity to get Visitor's Award

University of Hyderabad has emerged as the best central university for the year 2015 and will receive an award from President Pranab Mukherjee.

“President of India Pranab Mukherjee will present Visitor’s Awards for central universities in the categories of Best University, Innovation and Research for the year 2015 at a function to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 4,” said a communiqué released by Venu Rajamony, press secretary to President.

At the function, which will coincide with the a two day conference of vice chancellors of the central universities to be held from February 4, the President will also confer the Visitor’s Award for Research on a group of researchers at Centre for Theoretical Physics of Jamia Millia Islamia for path breaking research in the field of astrophysics and cosmology.

Visitor’s Award for ‘Innovation’ will be given to Vijay K Chaudhary and Amita Gupta of Delhi University for inventing ‘TB Confirm’, a rapid diagnostic test for tuberculosis.

The ‘Best University’ will receive a citation and trophy while winners of Visitors’ Award for innovation and research will receive a citation and cash award of Rs 1 lakh.
