Wooing shoppers

One of the biggest shopping festivals in the world is back this year only to bring in an array of both international and local events for shoppers across the world.The end of the month will see the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) in full swing, for the first time they are on a road show in the City for promotions and in their words to “woo Southern India”.

This being their 15th edition, the organisers of DSF say that apart from core aspects like shopping, winning and family entertainment; they will also have other new attractions for tourists. “Opportunities are boundless in Dubai,” said Mohammad Kamali, Marketing Head of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment at a press meet in the City. Among the attractions one will get to see is the tallest building Burj Khalifa, longest driverless Metro train and the Atlantis Hotel on Palm Islands. “Many of them are inter connected as well making it user-friendly for tourists,” adds Kamali.

On the shopping front, the festival is said to offer up to 75 per cent discount on Global brands with a participation of 600 retail shops and 50 malls. “To make things interactive we are also giving away prizes worth 1.4 billion,” said Kamali. Some of the prizes range from luxury vehicles with diamond studded keys to raffle tickets. “Interestingly almost 70 per cent of the winners are from India itself,” he adds.

Entertainment is also a big aspect of the DSF. This year one will get to witness an array of events such as international jazz festival, Zakir Hussain’s concert, Dubai Carnival and a production by the cartoon character ‘Ben 10’.

“One of the most popular events is the food festival which will bring together chefs from across the world to showcase their speciality,” said Kamali.

The promotion will move to Mumbai, later this week and the festival will be on from January 28 to February 28.
