Quirky items

Dull, mundane items of everyday use get a complete makeover thanks to Khyatiworks, which was started by Khyati Mehra Sharma in 2011.

A haven for people who are always on the lookout for something unique, Khyatiworks is a niche brand with handcrafted merchandise. From jewellery to homeware, shoes to stationery, the place offers quirky products like hand-painted shoes with whimsical art, fridge magnets and a plethora of other items. While some of the products are hand-painted like shoes, wooden modish jewellery, paperweights, drawer knobs etc, the rest are handcrafted like table mats, coasters, glass jewellery, stationery and fridge magnets.

Khyati works full time as a software professional and explores her creative side during her free time. “Art for me is a way to express myself. Sometimes, I feel it’s a better way to express oneself. I love intricate art, which has a lot of detail and depth. It is a place where I totally let go of myself and put what I feel like on paper. When I don’t restrict myself, I get many ideas and put those on the canvas. So the inspiration behind my art is nothing external. It’s something very intuitive and personal. My products reflect what I feel and how I see the world,” says Khyati.

Her works are beautiful and abstract with vivid colour combinations. The items she makes like mugs and notebooks can brighten up any corner of the house. She initially started making decorations for the wall but later branched out to make greeting cards, mugs, bookmarks and notebooks. When these found an instant connect with people, she was encouraged to do more work.

Juggling time between her full-time job and Khyatiworks, she says, “I strongly believe that you can always find time to do something that you love. I have a core technical job that complements my creative edge beautifully. After a long day’s work, creating a new product is the best form of relaxation for me. I devote a fixed number of hours every week to it.

Sometimes, I have to devote extra hours but I ensure that I dedicate the required time. And I feel when you enjoy doing something, it’s not that difficult to juggle between commitments.” Khyati plans to set up a store in the City soon. For details, log on to www.khyatiworks.com
