Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr) and his trusted lieutenant Dr Watson (Jude Law) return in Director Guy Ritchie’s version of the famous detective franchise. Serial murderer and black magician Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) who terrorises people in the late 1800s is hanged,  but he has another trick up his sleeves. Blackwood comes back ‘alive’ to haunt his captor Holmes. And with Watson busy with his beau, the prowess of Holmes’ deductive instinct is put to test.

This edition of Sherlock Holmes is more about friendship, than a detective story. It’s focus is to bring home the fact that Holmes and Watson relation is ‘no boss and no sidekick’ friendship.

However, Holmes is now projected as a superhero who will continue to have his way in future films.  Sherlock Holmes fans will be content with the storyline and turn of the plots. The visual remains classic pre-1900s. However, there are some patches which were left unattended among those being Downey’s poor dialogue delivery and the cameraman’s taste. All in all, there are always some thrilling moments in a Holmes’ adventure. Even when filmmakers have shortcomings, the super detective’s charm overshadows them.
