Former Jharkhand  chief minister Hemant Soren came under fire from the Janata Dal(U) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday over his statement that he would smash the head of anyone from Bihar who come looking for employment in the state.

Hemant, while addressing Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leaders during the party’s 36 Foundation Day function at Dumka, said, “If a person from Jharkhand goes to Bengal and Bihar in search of a job, he gets beaten up. Now, if someone comes from Bihar to Jharkhand, sar phod doonga (I will smash his head).”

He also reminded people of another ‘young turk’ Raj Thackeray, who used to spew venom on Biharis working in Maharashtra.

“Hemant apparently does not have any knowledge of history. Jharkhand was part of Bihar till 2000. But he is behaving like former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi, who too raised the domicile issue and lost power forever. He (Marandi) contested the recent Assembly election from two places and lost both. Hemant should learn from history before darting vitriol,” said BJP MP from Godda (Jharkhand), Nishikant Dubey.

The JD(U) in Bihar too reacted strongly. “Those who are still under the impression that they can play divisive politics are bound to meet their nemesis,” said JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar.
