Eleven artists from across the country  have come together to define the medium of ceramics. They have displayed their works at an exhibition titled ‘Digging Time (The Archaeology of Time and Mind)’, at  Gallery Art Positive, Lado Sarai.

Curated by ceramics artist Vineet Kacker, the exhibition aims to ‘dig up’ the intangible and elusive nature of time, and uses the method of pottery to use as a reference.

“A timeline is a way of displaying a list of events in chronological order, the past, present and the future. We can use it to document the past, study our present and imagine the future. Similar is our human mind because we can memorise, maintain and muse!” says Anu Bajaj, director of the gallery.

“Ceramic and pottery have an important role in archaeology for understanding the culture, technology and behaviour of peoples of the past. Scooped out from earth itself, ceramic and pottery associate itself with time – past, present and future,” he adds.

Aarti Vir from Telangana, Antra Sinha from Puducherry, Mudita Bhandari from Indore, Neha Pullarwar from Mumbai, Rakhee Kane Jadeja from Auroville, Shampa Shah from Bhopal and
Vinod Daroz from Baroda are the participating artists. On the other hand, representing the city are Dipalee Daroz, Manisha Bhattacharya, Reyaz Badruddin and Shirley Bhatnagar.

Aarti Vir uses the metaphor of a river and juxtaposes it with time. At the same time, Vinod Daroz brings together the fleeting tangibility and utter fragility of both time and clay.

His creations such as ‘Black Sea’ and ‘Timeless’ are laced with symbolic references while Rakhee Kane assimilates her experiences of an artists’ life. Strong impressions find expression in her works.

Dipalee  Daroz’s artworks, in a metaphorical sense, are objects that become both timeless and time borne.

According to the artist, when time transcends these material objects, they become immaterial.

The exhibition is on view at Gallery Art Positive, Lado Sarai till February 15 from 11 am to 7 pm.
