Fierce competition for Kalasa agri co-operative society poll

As many as 42 contenders are in fray for 10 posts

After 23 years, the election which is going to be held for the Kalasa Primary Agriculture and Credit Cooperative Society on February 8 has created curiosity. 

There is fierce competition for the 10 director posts of the society which has 2,500 members. Among ten, one post is for the member who doesn’t have any lends in the society. Four contenders are in the ring for this post. 

Anyone who has lends can contest for other nine posts. Out of nine, two seats are reserved for women and backward class. One seat each for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. Remaining four seats are available for general category.

In total, 38 people will contests for nine seats.  In the first election which is being held after 1992, along with Congress, JD (S) and BJP, Kalasa Hobli Jagruta Nagarika Vedike has also fighting the elections.

Election has raised the curiosity as cooperation movement leader Manjappaiah, convenor Brahmavar, Martin D’Souza, Ashalata, N M Harsha,  Ranganath and Hasanabba, Venkatesh and others will contest polls. 

BJP leader M A Sheshagiri said that the party will support will support the contestant with good character. The party wants to give good administration and serve people in cooperative sector as well, he said. 

Congress leaders and who is a contestant himself said: “the party has played a crucial role in the development of the cooperative society. Though we don’t want to play politics here, there are 10 strong Congress contenders this time.”    

For Co-operative Society President B K Manjappaiah, who has completed five tenures from 1995, this election is crucial. However, he said that he would humbly obey the decision of people. 

For the benefit of the members of the society, we have done our best in past five years. Kalasa Jagruta Nagarika Vedike Convenor and contender Brahmadeva said that the ‘understanding- politics’ of politics in Kalasa should end. 

Ten members of the forum will contest in the elections. The result of the election results will be declared on the same day (February 8).
