Identify dry borewells; shortlist alternative water sources, says MP

Directs GPs and TPs to pay pending power bills

MP R Dhruvanarayan directed the officials concerned to take steps to mitigate drinking water problems in villages under Hanur Assembly constituency as summer is approaching.

He was chairing a review meeting on the works executed with Central funds, at Christaraja ITI College hall, here, on Wednesday. “Dry borewells should be identified and alternative water sources should be shortlisted. Drinking water facilties should be created in all government schools,” he said.

Officials informed that the constituency had received Rs 16.36 crore for drinking water projects for the current year and works on nine overhead tanks had been completed, while four were under progress. But, 24 projects were pending, they said.

Zilla Panchayat member from Martalli, Mahadevanayak, said that even though the tank at Boodiadaga village had been readied last year itself, no water had been filled in it till date.

Assistant Director for Mahathma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) Srikantamurthy failed to provide information on the expenditure of Rs 38.49 crore, out of the total Rs 39.76 crore released under MNREGA for the year 2014-15. Social Auditing Officer Siddappa Dinahalli said that a report on the shortcomings in the implementation of MNREGA projects, under Martalli and Kannur Grama Panchayats, has been prepared and that the same would be submitted to the Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer shortly.


Block Education Officer Y K Thimmegowda said that 84 students who had dropped out of school, had been identified under Hanur Assembly constituency, and there was a vacancy of 171 teachers in primary schools. He said that respective cluster resource persons have been directed to admit dropouts to residential schools in their areas.

Cesc Assistant Executive Engineer said that he had received orders to cut off power supply to villages on the Hanur-Madhuvanahalli road and also at Hanur Town Panchayat, as they had failed to pay bill amount to the tune of Rs 1.45 crore.

The MP directed the GPs and the town panchayat authorities to pay the bills at the earliest. He also warned the officials that action will be initiated against delay in implementation of projects and apathy towards people’s problems.
