Trio makes futile bid to break open ATM

Three masked men made a futile attempt to steal cash from a Corporation Bank ATM kiosk located near R L Jalappa Camp in Doddaballapur early Tuesday morning. The machine contained Rs 8.4 lakh in cash, the police said.

According to the police, around 1.30 am, three men entered the kiosk by breaking open the shutter and tried in vain for more than 30 minutes to break open the cash dispenser with hammers and iron rods, before fleeing. A senior police officer said the ATM was located on the City outskirts and had no security guard, as the kiosk shut up shop by 11 pm.

The CCTV camera footage showed three masked men entering the ATM centre and trying to break open the machine. The incident came to light in the morning, when passersby noticed the damaged machine and informed the police, he said. The police have collected the CCTV footage for further investigation.
