Demand for overbridges unheeded

Last Updated 27 February 2015, 19:43 IST

Even as the horrific accident at Hebbal has turned the spotlight on the need for more skywalks and overbridges in traffic choked areas, a number of Bengalureans in various parts of the City have been campaigning for the same for a long time.

Doddnekkundi Outer Ring Road junction becomes a mess of a place with vehicles coming from all directions and pedestrians jostling for space while crossing the road. Software engineer P Ramesh, who resides in the area, started an online petition three years ago for a flyover to be built there. “I met so many people like Member of Parliament P C Mohan, MLA Aravind Limbavali, BDA Commissioner and executive engineers but there has been no progress. They keep on saying that they are working on it. The last I heard was that the BDA would start work in around two to three months,” he said.

For hundreds of techies working in and around the RMZ Ecospace Business Park on the Marathahalli- Sarjapur Outer Ring Road, Bellandur, commuting is a daily nightmare. Many of them have witnessed accidents there. Realising that a simple foot overbridge could solve the problem, Rohit Midha, another software engineer, whose office used to be at the Business Park, decided to start a similar petition on the issue.

Witnessing the daily trial of commuters in the City on his way to work, Phani Rudravarapu, another Bangalore resident, has called for petitions to build foot overbridges on outer ring road stretch along Marathahalli, KR Puram and Banaswadi.
