A local Congress party functionary was chased down and beheaded in full public view by a gang of four unidentified men on Tuesday morning at Thigalarapalya, off Magadi Road, on the outskirts of the City.

The victim, Nataraj Bhojaraj, 40, was the block president of the Rajagopal Nagar Congress unit. He was into real estate business. According to the police, Nataraj was in Thigalarapalya at around 9.30 am to inspect the two houses he was constructing there. Before heading back home, he met a friend, Kalyanappa. While they stood talking near the construction site, four men armed with lethal weapons alighted from an autorickshaw, surrounded Nataraj and beheaded him. The assailants then chopped off his limbs and also attacked Kalyanappa who rushed to his friend’s rescue, said the police. The gang fled in the same autorickshaw.

A senior police officer said Nataraj had business disputes with a few persons and old rivalry was the motive behind the murder. A police team has been constituted to nab the suspects.
