A 75-year-old man died after he and his wife were allegedly offered soft drinks laced with poison by unidentified persons in east Delhi’s Nand Nagri. The suspects then made away with cash and jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees from the home.

The 70-year-old woman is recovering at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
Police said though she has partially regained her consciousness, she has been of little help in the investigations as she is unable to recollect much of the incident.

A case of murder has been registered with Nand Nagri police station and several persons were interrogated.

However, little headway has been made in the case so far, said police.
Cash, jewellery missing. Victim Hukum Singh’s son Rajkumar has told police that about Rs 2 lakh in cash and jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees were found missing from the house after the crime was discovered on Monday night.

Police said they are yet to ascertain how much cash and jewellery were taken away.
Hukum was a tantrik and treated ailing people through jhaad phoonk at his home in Nand Nagri’s block A.

“Hukum was visited by about 50 patients every day on an average. That has made it difficult to narrow down on very few suspects,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

Four youths
But Rajkumar told police that he suspects the role of four youths who had been frequenting his home for the last one week on the pretext of receiving treatment.

He suspected they were trying to get unusually friendly with his parents with a plan to rob them. Rajkumar had arrived from work on Monday night to find his parents lying unconscious in the house and the house being ransacked.

He rushed them to hospital, where his father died on Tuesday.
Two glasses containing soft drinks were found on a table in the drawing room, leading him to allege that his parents were poisoned.

Police said they are awaiting the autopsy report to know what killed Hukum.
