Panamboor Beach Tourism Development Project Chief Executive Officer Yatish Baikampady has urged the district administration to identify an embarkment point for cruise ships in the City to attract tourists.

Addressing the District Tourism Development Committee meeting convened by District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai at Deputy Commissioner’s office here, on Tuesday, he said around 30 to 35 cruise ships pass by Mangaluru to Kerala without stopping as there is no proper embarkment point.

With an embarkment point, tourists can stay one or two days in Mangaluru and visit the tourist spots, he said.

He said NMPT should take steps to handle dust at the approach road of Panamboor beach. They don’t want people to come, but they have to change their mindset as it is a routine destination for people.

Meanwhile, he hinted that in association with the tourism department, National surfing championship would be organised in May. Renowned cricketer Jonty Rhodes and Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty may participate in the event.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim directed Regional Transport Officer Afzal Ahmed Khan to provide transport facility to Panamboor beach as decided in RTA meeting a year ago. At least, the private buses which ply towards Surathkal and Katipalla during peak hours can pass through the beach.

However, the RTO said that KSRTC and private bus owners are not ready to ply buses to beach as it is not profitable. Later, Ramanath Rai directed the RTO to start bus service from State Bank to Panamboor at the earliest.

Under Nabard project, the department has planned to develop Jamalabad fort road in Belthangady, Nelligudde- Karinjeshwara Temple join road, Mudipu Kairangala village St Joseph Vaz church join road and Sulthan Batheri- Urwa Market join road in Mangaluru.

Karnataka Rural Infrastructural Development Limited officials said that under Dakshina Kannada district has got Rs 13.72 crore under Overall Beach Development Project.

The estimation is being prepared for the development of five beaches. DK Nirmithi Kendra official said that out of nine projects, one has been completed, four are under progress and three are yet to be started.
