<p>Two interior designers died and three others injured when their speeding car hit a road divider and rammed into a tree in south Delhi’s Moti Bagh late on Sunday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The preliminary medical examination confirmed that they were under the influence of alcohol and the car was being driven by an inebriated man, police said on Saturday.<br />The deceased have been identified as Amit, 34, and Navneet, 35, residents of south-west Delhi’s Sagarpur.<br /><br />Police said they were returning home from Gurgaon with friends Anil, Sandeep and Pankaj when the incident occurred around 11.30 pm.<br /><br />“They were travelling in a Maruti Ritz on national highway 8. Pankaj was driving the car and lost control over the wheels near Rao Tula Ram Marg,” said a police officer.<br /><br />In his statement, Anil told police that they were returning to their homes in Sagarpur after attending a party.<br /><br />Pankaj lost control while coming down a flyover in speed. After hitting a road divider, the speeding car skidded for over 50 metres before climbing onto the pavement and hitting a tree.<br /><br />A passer-by made a call to the police control room. Several motorists have also confirmed the sequence of events and claimed the car was speeding.<br /><br />A PCR van patrolling the area took the injured to the AIIMS trauma centre, where Amit and Navneet were declared brought dead.<br /><br />“Amit and Navneet were also trapped on the rear seat of the car due to the door getting jammed,” the officer added.<br /><br />A case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Pankaj with South Campus police station.<br /><br />“Pankaj has not been arrested as probe into the accident is being conducted. CCTV footage of cameras installed on the roads has also been analysed,” the officer added.<br /></p>
