According to his son and cine actor Shankar Ashwath, his father’s health was deteriorating with every passing day since the beginning of this year. He was admitted to B M Hospital on Monday (January 11).

Recalling the doctors opinion, Shankar Ashwath said that he may have suffered mild stroke again, a recurrence of the stroke he had experienced nine years ago.  The supply of blood to the brain has been effected. MRI scanning has been conducted and it is suspected to be a case of dementia.

Despite his ill health, Ashwath went on a pilgrimage to Kashi along with his family members from January 6 to 10. It was also his wish to pay obeisance at the abode of deity Vishwanatha, Shankar Ashwath said. Doctors Janardhan (cardiologist) and Gorur Janardhan (Neurologist) are treating him.
