A youth from an audit firm was taken into custody by the Seshadripuram police for trying to deposit 40 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination at a State Bank of India branch in the City on Wednesday. He has been identified as Shailesh Yadav.
The police said Yadav came to the State Bank of India, Seshadripuram branch, on Wednesday afternoon to deposit Rs 8 lakh in cash. While counting and verifying the notes, the cashier realised 40 notes of Rs 500 denomination were fake.
He immediately informed the bank manager who alerted the police.
“We rushed to the bank and took Yadav into custody for questioning. The bank manager Hari lodged a complaint in this regard. The police are investigating to ascertain the source of the fake notes,” said a police officer.
