Four car-borne youths successfully executed two robberies in one night in west Delhi but their luck ran out as police tracked them just as they were about to strike the third time. They robbed truck drivers and cleaners were stranded on deserted stretches of roads in the area.

The robbers used knives to threaten the victims and physically assaulted one trucker when he resisted. While one robber was nabbed by a police team as the gang was about to execute its third robbery, the other three were arrested later following several raids.
Akshay, Akash, Jaspreet and Satender, all in their early twenties and close friends, went about the robbing spree in a red Chevrolet Beat during the wee hours of Thursday.
They first targeted truck driver Pritam and his helper. Driving towards Azadpur, the two had got off their truck to replace a punctured tyre on the Ring Road in Punjabi Bagh.

The robbers’ car pulled over beside the truck and the four emerged armed, with knives.
They tried to clean the victims of their cash, but were resisted. “The driver and the cleaner were thrashed and robbed of Rs 2,300 in cash. The robbers then fled in the car,” said police.

Pritam called the police control room soon after the robbery upon which a team was put on the trail of the robbers’ car. The car was tracked down an hour later somewhere else on the Ring Road.

“The police team saw the four robbers getting off the car and walking towards another truck parked by the road. The police team immediately chased them and managed to nab one of the suspects. The other three escaped in their car,” police said.

It emerged during interrogation of the suspect that they had robbed another truck driver of Rs 10,000 in cash in Peeragarhi in the period between their first robbery and the arrest.  No criminal history of the four suspects has emerged so far and it appears to be their maiden attempt at robbery.
