A man killed his own brother at a roadside tea shop at Kacharakanahalli, Banaswadi, on Wednesday morning even as horrified passersby looked on. Property dispute is said to be the motive for the gruesome murder. Police arrested the suspect within an hour of the incident.

The victim is Manju alias Koli Manju, a small-time real estate agent. His younger brother, Madhu, a lorry owner, was arrested in Horamavu for the murder. According to police, Manju had recently sold a residential plot owned by the family. He didn’t share the money equally with Madhu. The brothers, who were living with their parents at Kacharakanahalli, had many fights over the issue in the last few months. Their parents asked them to solve the issue amicably but they didn’t heed the advice and went to court.

As the case dragged on, Madhu got furious and decided to kill his brother, police said. On Wednesday, around 9.45 am, he followed Manju to a roadside tea shop.

He pounced on him and attacked him with a machete and fled the spot even as onlookers watched in horror. Manju suffered grievous injuries on the head and the shoulder. Some shopkeepers ran to his rescue and took him to a hospital but it was too late. Doctors declared him brought dead, police added.

As the police got the news, they rushed to the spot and learnt that Madhu had fled towards Horamavu. Policemen went after him and arrested him. Police claimed that Madhu had confessed to the crime.

A case has been registered at the Banaswadi police station. Police are investigating whether more people were involved in the murder.
