The aroma of home

Warm memories

The aroma of home

Some festivals, like Christmas and Easter, are incomplete without a visit to the age-old bakeries in Bengaluru. Falling under the category of these well-known bakeries is All Saints Stores and Bakery.

Opened in 1968 as a small unit of a departmental store and bakery, it has grown over the years never failing to delight its customers. A cosy place, it has regular customers who have made this their second home. Seythan, an energetic old lady who visits the bakery every single day, says, “It is the feel of this place that I like a lot.”

The owner of the bakery, VT Joseph, says, “This place was started by my father and I took over it after he fell ill as I was the eldest son.” Thirty two years and it has remained in the same location unaffected by urbanisation. The people who used to stay close to the place have moved out and there are many who have permanently settled abroad but, “They never fail to visit this place when they are in the City,” says Joseph.
He also comments on the changes that the City has undergone. “Bengaluru was a small town then. Now it has grown to be one of the biggest cities. Our business too has grown similarly and is not affected by the birth of other bakeries.” A bakery with a departmental store, the idea was to unite the bakery section and grocery shopping together.
While the regular days are not any less busy, the festive days of Christmas, Easter and Good Friday are hectic he says. “The bakery will be jam-packed during these days,” he exclaims. Their quality is high and the cakes here are sought-after. There are many who have a fair amount of trust built up with this store and they have been getting their wedding cakes done here for generations now.

“We always maintain the quality and there is no compromise on this. The quality is one of the USPs of this place. Along with this, we provide the best customer service,” he adds. It is the personalised service that has kept it popular and going.

Joseph recalls the old memories attached with this bakery. “I started coming here when I was studying in third standard. I regulary came here, before and after school. I was the eldest and never failed to help my father.” On the speciality of their plum cakes, Joseph adds, “It was my father’s recipe and we are still following the same recipe that gives the cakes a special taste.”
