The Lokayukta police  arrested a BBMP executive engineer, Rajarajeshwari Nagar division, for proposing existing works under the Urban Development Scheme 2014-15.

The list includes works already under progress. It had been prepared at the behest of local MLA Muniratna, said the police, who have named the MLA as the main accused in the FIR.

The Lokayukta police conducted searches at the BBMP office on Monday evening. Executive Engineer (Planning) Vijay Kumar was taken into custody for proposing 64 works under the scheme worth Rs 45 crore. Preliminary enquiry revealed that around 20 per cent of the works proposed were already existing.

“Most of the works proposed were existing drinking water units in the division. The cost involved for these works would amount to around Rs 8-9 crore. The other existing works included in the list are being probed,” a senior police officer said.

In the file notings, it has been specifically mentioned that the list of works was prepared on the request placed by Muniratna. The proposal was to be placed before the Technical Committee for final approval. The case has been registered to prevent misappropriation of funds meant for developmental works, the officer said.

The Lokayukta Special Court remanded Kumar in judicial custody.
