Teachers' postings depend on how students perform

Students’ performance will be a new criterion for transfer of schoolteachers in Rajasthan. Teachers, who have consistently maintained good results in their classes will be given transfer to the place of their choice.

The new initiative will be implemented from June. The Education Department has already sought the performance records of the last five years from all the schools in the state.

“A new format has been introduced for the transfer of schoolteachers. Under the initiative, performance of students will be a major criterion for any teacher to get transfer to the place of his choice,” said a senior official in Education Department.

This will improve the performance of students and maintain transparency in the transfer system, the officer said adding that in case of poor results, government will decide where to post the teacher.

At first, only the teachers of senior classes will be considered for the new format. But later, all the teachers will be brought under the initiative, he said. “Initially, the new format of will be implemented for the teachers who are teaching board classes. So we will focus on the results of class 7, 10, and 12 board examinations. Later this format will be applicable on all teachers of government school,” said the official.

However, the department has sought performance report of all the classes from all schools, he added.

Education Minister Vasu Devnani has been constantly advocating for linking the transfer of teachers with the performance of students. However, teachers have raised objection saying that new system has been implemented just before the last date of submitting transfer application and they could not get enough time to understand it.

“The last date for submitting transfer application is May 7. The new system has been announced on May 5 and the government has introduced a new column about the students’ performance in the forms. Most of the teachers will have to submit fresh forms with new format and this is unfair,” said Vipin Sharma, vice president, Rajasthan School Teachers’ Association.

The government should have announced the new system well in advance, he added.
