Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers H N Ananth Kumar on Wednesday, urged the State government to allot 500 acres land to set up a urea manufacturing factory.

Though the State has agreed to provide the land and bear 10 per cent equity, the land should be alloted at the earliest to enable the Centre start the process of setting up the 1.3 million tonne capacity factory, Kumar told reporters here.

“I met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah twice in this connection. The Centre will invest Rs 5,500 crore for the project and it will generate a large number of jobs,” he said.

The proposed fertiliser plant in Karnataka will be one of the nine fertilizer factories in the country proposed to be revived or opened. It was decided to revive urea units at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and Barauni in Bihar, Talcher urea unit in Odisha and Ramagundam in Telangana.
