JOIN USAn 82-year-old ex-Armyman committed suicide by setting himself ablaze at a shed in an under-construction building near Gaurava Nagar in JP Nagar 7th phase on Wednesday morning.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Kanakaraju, a resident of Gaurava Nagar. In the morning, carrying a can of petrol he went to the shed, situated next to his house.
He poured petrol over himself and set himself on fire. Passersby tried to douse the fire by pouring water on him but failed in their attempts. They managed to douse the fire after 20 minutes and found Kanakaraju dead.
They informed his family members and the police, who shifted the body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. The family members told the police that he was depressed as he was suffering from several health problems and had undergone seven surgeries in a span of two years.
He was staying along with his wife and a few relatives, while his children are settled abroad, police said.
