State team in Cannes

The State government has for the first time sent a team led by Information minister Roshan Baig to participate in the Cannes Film Festival in France.

According to the State Information department, the objective of this exercise is watch films screened in Cannes to try to improvise on the international film festival and the children’s film festival that is being jointly organised by the department and the Karnataka Film Academy from the last four years.

The team, comprising N Nagambika Devi, Principal Secretary,Department of Kannada and Culture, Information and Public Relations, S V Rajendra Singh Babu, Chairman, Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy Chairman, and N R Vishukumar, Director, Department of Information and Public Relations, will study the various facets of organising film festivals.

The team will watch films on all the ten-days of the film festival (May 13 to 24), which was inaugurated on Wednesday. After the team returns, a set of recommendations will be submitted to the State government. The team will also hold interactions with the festival organisers.

The government is spending Rs 13 to 14 lakh on the traveling expenses for the team.
