3rd extension ends, caste census yet to be completed in City

The socio-economic survey (caste census) has been given three extensions for Bengaluru region and yet 1.69 lakh houses in the State capital remain to be covered.

The third deadline set for the completing the census ended on Friday. Of the 26.3 lakh households in Bengaluru, enumerators have managed to cover 24.61 lakh households as per information hosted on the Karnataka Backward Classes Commission. The census is being conducted under the aegis of the commission.

“We are holding a meeting on Saturday wherein we will get reports on the progress of the census in various parts of Bengaluru. We will take a decision on our next step of action,” Commission Chairman H Kantharaj said.

The census, which commenced on April 11, has been completed in all other districts in the State. The census was to conclude on April 30 and so far three extensions has been given for Bengaluru region.

The digitisation of the enumeration forms which was taken up simultaneously is progressing on a slow pace.

 Of the 1.40 crore households across the State only 33.74 per cent of the forms have been digitised.
