The Adani Group, which recently bought over the Udupi Power Corporation Limited from the debt-ridden Lanco Infratech, has begun generating power, said Managing Director of Adani Power Ltd, Rajesh Adani.

Adani, who made a courtesy call on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his home office Krishna in Bengaluru on Monday, later speaking to the media said the company had just begun generation and it was in the process of sorting out several problems that is ailing the power plant. Adani, said that the company at the moment had no plans of expanding UPCL to 1,320 MW from 1,200 MW, as per its earlier proposal.

Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, who was present in the meeting, said the company had assured to improve the peak load factor from the existing 60-70 per cent to 90 per cent.
“Now that Adani has taken over, the lacunae, including the procurement of coal, will be set right. The earlier company was cash strapped, so much so that the State government had lent it an advance of around Rs 500 crore,” he added.

UPCL has established 2x600 MW imported coal based power project in Udupi district of the State. It supplies all the 100 per cent power generated to Karnataka at Rs 4.05 per cent.
