A-G: State right in clearing lake encroachments

Last Updated 22 May 2015, 21:00 IST

Advocate General  Ravivarma Kumar  has defended the State government’s action against lake encroachments.

Speaking to reporters here Friday, he said, “The action the government is taking against lake encroachments is the right thing to do. I have told the government that no encroacher should be given a chance to legalise a wrong.

“Everybody who has encroached on the land will have to give it up. Whether it is private persons or civic bodies, the government will act against them,” he said.

He said it was a disaster that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) itself has encroached upon lake land. Water is supposed to collect in this space and there is no place for buildings and other structures in lakes, he said.

Further he said, “By bringing back the Ryotwari Land Revenue System from the British times, we can more scientifically identify commercial and forest lands. A solution can also be found for the problem of encroachments.”
