Deccan Herald: What are the major problems in this ward?Byrathi Basavaraj: Primarily it is water, drains and road. We have solved people’s problems to a great extent whenever they come with complaints. Before I became the MLA, there were no roads here but in two years things have improve a lot.

Water and drainage seems to be a major problem here?Basavaraj: We are trying to provide Cauvery water and underground drains in all the localities of the constituencies. In this regard, we are approaching Japan International Cooperation Agency through Centre for a loan of Rs 5,180 crore. As for now, we have dug 130 borewells in the constituency.

What future plans you have for Ramamurthy Nagar?Basavaraj: It is a backward constituency which needs attention. I intend to start hostels for backward communities, a girls' pre-university and a degree college. Two new police stations are also in the pipeline. BDA is coming up with five skywalks at an estimated cost of Rs 68 crore at Kalyan Nagar, Babusapalya, near Tamarind Bridge, FCI underpass and KR Puram Market. A garbage processing unit is coming up at Hosur Bande in an area of 110 acres. We recently finished 588 quarters for slum dwellers.
