Tourist spot Kukkude lies in a state of neglect

Kukkude, a tourist spot situated in Haradi gram panchayat, near Brahmavar, is devoid of basic facilities. This is the classic example of negligence of authorities in the promotion of tourism.

Kukkude is situated just seven km away from Brahmavar. One can have panoramic view of the confluence of river and sea amidst greenery and the sunset. However, vistors will be disappointed at the pathetic condition of the spot.

The tourism department had constructed a watch tower to view the sunset and restroom for tourists at Kukkude 23 years ago. However, the watch tower and restroom is in deplorable condition. A children’s park with slides, beautiful garden and play area was laid along with watch tower.

However, as no one was entrusted with the responsibility to maintain the park and watch tower, it is now crying for attention. Many rides and toys in the park are in a dilapidated condition. “Many toys and rides are covered with rust, posing danger to kids. The overgrowth of weeds is another problem,” a vistor said.  Owing to lack of maintenance, the rest room, toilets and guest house rooms have also remained unused and pathetic.

Abbaga Daraga Veerabhadra Temple is situated adjacent to Kukkude spot. Hundreds of devotees visit the temple daily. If Kukkude watch tower and park is developed, then it will provide a leisure place to rest and enjoy the beauty of the nature.

As people do not have information on the spot, not many visit. The elected representatives and officials from tourism department should make an effort to develop the spot as a tourist destination, said the local residents.
