Last Updated 31 May 2015, 10:14 IST

A middle class family in Ranchi was left dumbfounded when they received an electricity bill of Rs 55 crore from the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB).

The bread earner of the family, Krishna Prasad is a small businessman in Ranchi. He owns a two bedroom apartment in the city and has a fridge, two ACs, three fans and an inverter in his house, as per a report in The Hindustan Times.

Krishna's mother had to be rushed to the hospital after her blood pressure shot up on seeing the bill. She would have got an heart attack, said Krishna.

Disturbed by the faulty bill, Krishna Prasad is mulling filing a case against the JSEB for mental harassment.

However, the central division–in charge, DN Sahu claimed that the faulty bill was a result of some software error and the actual electricity bill which Krishna has to pay is Rs 10,000.
