A day after the Army foiled infiltration attempt by militants in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir, Pakistani troops fired on Indian forward posts on International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region on Sunday.

A Border Security Force (BSF) constable has been critically injured. Sources said the BSF constable sustained bullet injuries to his legs.

Pakistani Rangers opened heavy fire on IB in Hiranagar sector at around 11:30 pm on Sunday. A senior BSF official said the troops retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for half an hour.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said Pakistani troops also violated the ceasefire on LoC in Krishna Ghati Sector of Mendhar in Poonch at around 6 am on Monday.

“They fired heavily with automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades. However, there was no injury or damage reported in the firing. Our troops exercised restrained and did not retaliate as they were observing the pattern of firing from across the LoC,” he said and added that the situation is being monitored.

On Sunday, the Army foiled an attempt made by militants to infiltrate the LoC in Tangdar sector of Kupwara and killed three militants who had sneaked into Indian territory.

Sources said security forces have sounded a high alert along the LoC and IB in border districts of Jammu region and asked its men to maintain high vigil.

“Search operations were also conducted at some places in order to ensure area domination,” they added.
