A west Delhi property dealer was abducted on Wednesday for refusing to hand over a plot of land despite receiving the payment. He was, however, rescued in quick time.

Two of the three men involved in the abduction were also nabbed in the operation. A hunt is on for their third accomplice, police said on Thursday.

The kidnappers had made a ransom demand of Rs 16 lakh from the victim’s wife. To avenge the alleged cheating, the abductors also beat him up in a locked room.

Victim Ravi Deshwal lives in west Delhi’s Janakpuri with his family. His wife Manjeet approached the local police station on Wednesday after she received a ransom call of Rs 16 lakh from Deshwal’s abductors.

Police lodged a case and formed a team to crack the case.
Police said they sought the help of technical surveillance and local information to determine the possible hideouts of the suspects.

Help arrived in the form of a tip-off about the identity of the criminals upon which several possible hideouts of the suspects were raided. They were finally tracked down in Rohini Sector 4.

Police managed to arrest Birju and Kuldeep while Kake managed to escape. The victim was rescued from a room they had confined him to.

Two mobile phones and a Santro car, allegedly used in the crime, have been seized.
Interrogation of the suspects revealed the reason behind the abduction.
Accused Birju had planned to buy a plot of land for Rs 6 lakh through Deshwal. Though Birju paid Rs 4 lakh, Deshwal did not book the plot in his name.

When Birju demanded that his money be returned, Deshwal handed him cheques worth Rs 4 lakh. The cheques, however, bounced.

This had left Birju angry and he decided to seek revenge as well as the return of his money upon which he hatched the abduction plan.

He lured the other two to be a part of the plan by promising them a good share of the ransom amount, said police.
