Jaya case: State appoints lawyer

The State government on Friday appointed government advocate Joseph Aristotle, according him the sanction to file a special leave petition (SLP) against the May 11 judgement acquitting Tamil Nadu Chief minister J Jayalalitha in the disproportionate assets case.

The government, which recently decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict, issued the order on Friday. Senior counsel B V Acharya has been appointed special counsel on behalf of Karnataka and  Sandesh Chouta will assist him.
The under-secretary (administration-1), Law department, will be the litigation conducting officer and swearing officer. The State government has 90 days’ time to move the Supreme Court.
