BBMP releases app for zone restructuring

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Restructuring Committee has come out with an app wherein citizens can create zones and get information about their wards in detail.

The app has been created by the Committee to know citizens’ view on formation of zones. The app, available on the website http://www.bbmprestructuring.org, has the maps of 198 wards. Besides the ward maps, the app lists 12 zones, each of which is represented by a different colour and a serial number on the web page.

Committee member and civic expert V Ravichandar said, “To create Zone 1, the citizens have to select zone number one (Z1) listed on the right side of the page. They then have to click on the wards which they want to see under Z1. As the user clicks, red colour representing Z1 can be seen filling up the selected wards. However if the ward is on the other end, then it cannot be put into Z1. The wards within a zone must be contiguous.”

Details such as population, buildings, road length etc of a ward could be seen as one clicks on the map. Once all the wards are fitted into a zone, the user can see zonal characteristics such as property tax collected in the zone, lakes and parks, police stations and hospitals among other details.

Ravichandar said that it took two weeks to create this app. “Some of the details such as number of lakes and streetlights among others are yet to filled and we are in the process of completing the project soon,” he added.

Citizens can go the website http://www.bbmprestructuring.org and select ‘Zone creation’ which, on opening, will enable them to create zones. The suggestions and feedback could be uploaded by filling the form in ‘Contact us’ section.

Meanwhile, the three-member Committee appointed by the State government has indicated creation of five to eight corporations in the interim report submitted to the government a few months ago. The members said that the final decision regarding the number of corporations lies with the government.

Committee chairman B S Patil said that they were in the midst of preparing the final report and were hoping to submit the report by the end of June.
