Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) will stage a protest in Bengaluru on Friday, to condemn the delay by the sugar factories in clearing the dues of farmers.

Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday, Pandavapura MLA and KRRS leader K S Puttanaiah said in spite of the huge revenues generated by sugar factories, the factories were delaying payment to the farmers. Sugarcane has 47 by-products from which the factories generate revenue. They should pay the dues without any delay, he said.

Farmers incurring huge debts and the government should come to their rescue. The desperate farmers should be allowed to meet the deputy commissioners so that they can seek relief, he said. Apart from the dues, the sugar factories should pay compensation of at least Rs 10 lakh to the farmers who have ended their lives, he said.
