Fun & frolic bring Cubbon Park alive

Cubbon Park on Sunday came alive with a series of cultural and recreational activities including musical concerts, free cycle rides, book exhibition and a stellar performance by the KSRP police band.

The fun-filled Sunday at the City’s lung space began with ‘morning raga,’ an hour-long musical concert, which set the tone for the day.

There was something for the cycling enthusiasts of the City too. Free cycle rides were allowed in the serene environs of the Cubbon Park.

Book lovers were in for a treat as a book exhibition was held at the Central Library inside the park.

Visitors, about 5,000 in number, were seen thronging the stalls set up by Jaivik Krishik Society, Karnataka State Mango Development Board and the Nurserymen Cooperative Society where mangoes, other fruits, organic vegetables, ornamental plants, saplings were sold.

An hour-long ‘evening raga’ concert and a spectacular performance by the KSRP band brought curtains to the fun-filled eventful day.

Savitha N, a homemaker from Jayanagar who visited Cubbon Park on Sunday said that she enjoyed her day out and was peaceful due to the vehicular ban. Similarly, Krishna Prathap who visited the park with his family members said: “The programme should be extended to Saturdays also. The art activities and cultural performances were good. I enjoyed the events thoroughly.”

Deputy Director, Cubbon Park, Mahantesh Murugod said that the cultural and recreational activities will be organised every Sunday. It’s a brainchild of Horticulture Minister Shamanuru Shivashankarappa.

“While cycling and music concerts are nothing new, book exhibition is being organised for the first time. So too, for the first time the stalls were put up by the Horticulture department, Jaivik Krishik Society, Karnataka State Mango Development Board.

Henceforth, we will hold this activity every Sunday,” he added. For 5,000-plus visitors it was a Sunday well spent.
