SWD turns dumping ground

Occupants of the houses on the either side of the stormwater drain (SWD) on 2nd Cross, 15th Main, HAL 2nd Stage, Indiranagar, have converted the drain into a dumping ground. A few residents have dumped firewood in the drain blocking the water flow. Auto drivers here park their vehicle on the course of the drain. The 2nd Cross road is littered with plastic waste and garbage. Hope BBMP authorities take steps to address the problems in the area.

A sure recipe for disaster
There is a six-pillared electricity transformer with a distribution busbar transformer junction located very close to Subramanayanagar police station on Dr Rajkumar Road. Just beneath the transformer there lies mounds of tree branches, which were axed a month ago from the nearby trees.
Till date, BESCOM or BBMP has not taken action to clear the dried branches. There are also seized vehicles parked there and a petrol pump close-by. I request the authorities concerned to clear them before a disaster strikes the place.

Instal streetlights at work site
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is developing a lake at 6th block Vishweshwaraiah Layout (near Muneshwara temple) in Ullala Upanagar at an estimated cost of Rs one crore. While I appreciate the BDA’s work, I urge the Bescom authorities to instal streetlights in the area as the construction workers residing in the sheds there are are forced to spend nights in darkness.

Sewage overflow causing hardships
A sewage line on 4th Main, 3rd Block, BEL Layout, Vidyaranyapura has been blocked. The manhole nearby is overflowing causing a great deal of hardship to the residents of the area. Unbearable stink and sewage water stagnation have made the lives of the people here miserable. The sewage overflow has further turned into a breeding ground for mosquitos. I request the BWSSB officials to address the problem soon.

Residents get bills, but no water
There has been no water supply for several months to the residential and commercial buildings on 4th Main Road, APMC Yard, Yeshwantpur. The building owners, however, are issued with water bills regularly. Despite several complaints to BWSSB in this regard, no action has been taken so far.

Footpaths on WoC Road encroached
The footpaths on either side of  West of Chord Road near Iskcon temple in Rajajinagar have been encroached upon. Many petty vendors run their businesses on the footpath. The customers visiting a restaurant and shops here park their vehicles on the footpath. Thousands of people who visit this stretch dotted Iskcon temple, Narayana Nethralaya and Big Bazar every day, are forced to walk on the busy road. Because of which many pedestrians have suffered injuries. Hope the traffic police and the BBMP authorities take appropriate measures to clear footpaths of encroachments.

Bad road
The 2nd Main Road in Prashantnagar is in a deplorable condition. The road was last asphalted five years ago. The Main Road and arteries are riddled with potholes. Add to it, heaps of debris are dumped along footpaths. The road dotted with potholes and shrunk footpaths have inconvenienced the commuters and pedestrians. When skies open up, the silt-ridden drains overflow, spilling sewage onto the roads. We request the elected representatives of the area and the Palike authorities to take steps to resolve our problems.

Mosquito menace
The mosquito menace has intensified at 2nd Block HBR Layout. The problem had turned worse in the areas close to stormwater drain. The drain, which is not desilted for years, has become a breeding ground for mosquitos. Swarms of mosquitoes enter houses in the area. Because of which we are facing sleepless nights. Coils, mats and other repellents available in the market are of a little help in curbing the mosquito menace. The authorities should spray repellents on a regular basis in the area and they should desilt the drain.

Clear tree branches in RK Layout
After a long and consistent follow-up through this newspaper, a tree was trimmed on 3rd Cross, 2nd Stage, RK Layout, Padmanabhanagar. Now, it is the turn of getting the cut tree branches removed from the spot.  The tree was cut on the May 16 but the remains are yet to be cleared.
Despite repeated appeals to the authorities concerned no action is forthcoming.  The authorities should look into the matter expeditiously as the leaves have started decaying leading to stench and breeding of mosquitoes.

Restore road dug for pipeline work
A few days back, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) officials dug up the road on 9th Main, 9th Cross, Srinivasa Nagar, BSK 1st Stage to repair a faulty pipeline. The water board workers didn’t bother to restore the road after the repair work.
The unattended pit is causing lot of problems in our neighbourhood. It’s dangerous at night as it will cause accidents as well. I request the BWSSB officials to take steps to close the pit and restore the road.

Trash piles up in Rustam Bagh
The Residents’ Welfare Association of Rustam Bagh Layout has taken up an initiative to keep the area clean and green but careless citizens and the visitors to the area litter the streets with garbage. Even the dustbins placed by the association are not being used by the people. Add to it, one of the dustbins has been stolen by some miscreants. Also, the civic workers do not take up cleaning work in the area on a regular basis. The street corners are filled with piles of garbage.

Clean the vacant site
Harmful weeds and shrubs have grown on the vacant site No 556, located at 6th Main, 9th Cross, Sadashivanagar (Ward No 35).
My  family doctor has told me to get the harmful weeds removed from this site as it can lead to asthma, dust allergy problems to the people residing nearby.
Also the site has become breeding place for snakes, scorpions, rats and reptiles. It’s been a year since I lodged a complaint at BBMP control room but there has been no response.
