Allure of quick bucks leaves tailor in lurch

On July 7, last year, Ravi VP of Kalyan Nagar received an SMS congratulating him for winning Rs 2,500 pounds (about Rs 2 lakh). The message then asked him to pay Rs 11,814 for sending the sum through the courier. Delighted over the announcement, Ravi immediately deposited the sum in the account number 002801508860 at ICICI Bank, Vijayanagar branch.

Two days later, a person claiming to be one John White from the United Kingdom asked him to deposit a further Rs 42,480 in the account number 003105024880. Acting on the instruction, he deposited the amount on August 3.

Similarly he kept on depositing various sums of money and finally realised that it was a racket. He then lodged a complaint with Chandra Layout police.

Woman robbed

A woman from Bangalore was robbed of her mangalsutra valued at Rs 61,000 on board a bus in Mysore on Friday.

The victim, Yashoda, wife of Gajendra, is a resident of Kempapura Agrahara, Magadi Road. She had come to Chamundi Hills here along with her family members. Her son noticed the mangalsutra missing after alighting from the bus near Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens.
