Last Updated 19 June 2015, 17:58 IST

Mangalore International Airport will start domestic air cargo operations from June 26.
Airports Authority of India has come up with a plan to run domestic cargo terminals with private participation at 22 airports. Among them Mangalore airport has emerged first in finalising the agency and obtaining the clearances from BCAS, New Delhi, while tender process is going on in other airports. With the induction of the new facility, valuable goods, perishables, medicines, routine software parts, valuable or essential machinery parts can be transported from one airport to other in India.

Presently, 150-200 MT packs of mail bags are being sent from the airport regularly from passenger terminal building itself. Now, a separate Common User Domestic Cargo Terminal (CUDCT) is established, through which the domestic cargo operations will be carried out. The CUDCT operations will  be operated by Cargo Service Centre CSE, Mumbai. The international cargo has been operating from the Mangalore airport from May 2013.
