Cheat couple arrested, charged with attempt to murder

A young couple has been arrested for robbery after luring the victim with an advertisement on OLX.

Ranjit Nagar-residents Devender Gaur, 25, and his 28-year-old wife Kavita had placed an advertisement for selling a 50-inch LED TV for a mere Rs 32,000, police said on Saturday.
The probe was initiated after the landlord of the couple’s rented house made a PCR call on June 5. It was done after victim Siddharth Vishwas was found unconscious in the house.

A team from Ranjit Nagar police station attended the call and took the man to Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital.

“The landlord was asked about the injured person, but no clue was found as he did not recognise the man found on the spot,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Parmaditya.

Accordingly, a case of attempt to murder under Indian Penal Code has been registered.

During investigation, it was revealed that Devender and Kavita were residing there on rent. “They were missing since the injured was found at their house. So raids were conducted at their possible hideouts,” Parmaditya added.

Technical surveillance was also mounted, which revealed that the couple were in Kolkata. A police team then went to Kolkata and arrested them.

“A mobile phone of the victim was recovered from them,” Parmaditya added.

Devender and Kavita confessed to their crime. After going through their advertisement, Siddharth had contacted Devender and visited their rented house.

After having a cup of tea with Siddharth, Devender attacked him and hit a wooden handle on his head.

Kavita was also there in the room. Siddharth collapsed, but Devender kept hitting on his head till he died.

“The couple took Siddharth’s mobile phone and wallet and fled from the spot,” Parmaditya said. They also withdrew Rs 26,000 using Siddharth’s ATM card after obtaining PIN number from his wallet.

After that, they shifted to a hotel in central Delhi’s Paharganj. On June 8, they went to Kolkata and were living with Kavita’s parents.
