The State BJP on Monday urged the State Election Commissioner (SEC) to announce the calendar of events for conducting polls to the BBMP immediately.
A delegation comprising City legislators met SEC, P N Srinivasachari soon after the Karnataka High Court quashed a plea filed by the State government seeking more time to conduct the polls.
Speaking to the reporters after the meeting, former minister Suresh Kumar said, “The observations made by the court and imposition of fine on the State government is nothing but humiliation to the government. At least now, the State government should stop indulging in delaying tactics and cooperate with the State Election Commission in conducting polls to the BBMP,” he said.
He said the ruling Congress was apprehensive of facing the polls and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s sudden penchant for going on the City rounds and announcement of slew of new projects was an indication of the party’s fear to face voters.
