Unabated rains, tree falls cause havoc in districts

Intermittent rains coupled with gusty winds continued to lash coastal districts on Wednesdayas well. Subrahmanya and surrounding areas of Harihara, Balugodu, Madappady, Guthigaru, Kalmakaru recorded good rainfall on Wednesday.

Hariharapallathadka Government Higher Primary School building was damaged when a jackfruit tree fell on the building. The mishap occurred when classes were in progress. However, all children have escaped unhurt. Around 700 rooftiles were damaged along with furnitures in the school. 

In the last 24 hrs, the district has received an average of 33.4 mm rainfall. Puttur recorded highest of 55.6 mm rainfall followed by Sullia—42.4 mm.

Meanwhile, gusty winds have damaged a farmer’s house, at Kalmakki in Baindur gram panchayat on Tuesday evening. The house belongs to Nelson P J. Last year, Nelson had lost his house following fire mishap. Now, it has been completely damaged. 

Udupi district received 32.9 mm rainfall for the last 24 hours.Udupi taluk received 25.6 mm, while Kundapur taluk recorded 35.9 mm and Karkala taluk received 32.9 mm rainfall respectively.

In Karkala, a house belonging to Pandu Naik was damaged after a tree collapsed on the house in Shivapura village in Karkala.

The roofs of the houses of Krishnappa Poojary in Mudaru, R Ibrahim in Renjala, Laxmi Moily in Meeyaru have been damaged owing to gusty wind and rains. The house of one Udaya Madivala was damaged in Heergana in Karkala. 

The sea erosion has intensified in Padudidri in Kaup. The wall of the house of Ammanni Ananda is collapsed due to wind and rain at Yeriyamadaga village in Athradi in Udupi.

In Kundapur taluk, the house of one Badiya Mogaveera was damaged in Koteshwara after the coconut tree fell on the house.
