Chescom should initiate measures to restore power supply in Kodagu district, which was disrupted following heavy rain in the last few days, District in-Charge Minister K J George said.

He was chairing the tri-monthly KDP meeting here on Friday. MLA M P Appachu Ranjan said that the district had received heavy rainfall. The residents are literally living in darkness owing to the disruption in power supply. The movement of vehicles on several stretches in rural areas have been hampered following landslide.

MLA K G Bopaiah said “the State government had passed an amendment to Karnataka Land Revenue Act to fix tax on Baane land. However, it has not been implemented in the district.

The previous Deputy Commissioner had sought clarification for the higher authorities from revenue department in this regard. Even after passing an amendment to the Act, the official seeking clarification amount to disrespect to the legislature.”

Loss of areca nut

The MLA alleged that  compensation for the loss of areca nut following fruit rot disease affecting the crops, during the last monsoon has not been distributed in Sampaje, Peraje, Chembu and Karike gram panchayats. The areca nut growers of coastal district have received the compensation.

MLA Appachu Ranjan said that the development works have been halted in the district with the shortage of sand. The poor are not able to construct a house. In the interest of the people, sand should be allowed to transport in pick up and tractor within the district.

Reacting to it, Minister K J George said that the sand mining is banned during monsoon. Those who transport sand in pick up and tractor may not transport for the construction of houses alone, he said and directed SP Varthika Katiyar not to file case against those who transport sand for construction of houses.

66KV line

MLA Bopaiah said that the forest department is coming in the way of laying 66 kv line in Virajpet. Only two electric poles will be laid inside the reserve forest. In reality, the reserve forest land was C and D land in the past.

To which, the Minister directed the forest department officials to facilitate the work on laying 66kv electricity line.

MLA Bopaiah took RTO Nafeez Ahmed to task for allowing the movement of heavy vehicles on the road. The previous DC had banned the movement of 10 tonne weighing vehicles on the road. However, hundreds of trucks transport sand daily. The police have failed to check such vehicles.

Demand for kerosene

Zilla Panchayat President Chodumada Shareen Subbaiah said that kerosene should be distributed to APL (Above Poverty line) card holders in the district. The district received heavy rainfall. Disruption in power supply is affecting all residents.

Reacting to it , the Minister appealed to the Food and Civil SUpplies Minister over phone to release additional quantity of kerosene to the district.
