After a 31-hour-long rescue operation, Army and state disaster team personnel saved a seven-year-old girl who had fallen into a borewell while playing at her family’s agricultural farm in Sikar district of Rajasthan.

Sunita was rushed to J K Lone hospital in Jaipur and her condition is stable. Several BJP leaders, including Heath Minister Rajendra Rathore, visited the hospital to enquire about her heath condition. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will also visit the hospital late in the evening.

On Saturday, Sunita had fallen into a 450 ft deep borewell and got struck at the depth of 40 feet.

Her father, Rudaram, had got the borewell dug up at his farm a few days ago and it was covered with a stone. While playing, Sunita sat on the stone which could not resist her weight and gave way.

The rescue team deployed several JCB machines to remove sand and mud around the borewell and created a base of concrete at a depth of 45 feet. Later, gas cutters were used to cut the borewell and Sunita was taken out.

“The child has been successfully rescued from the borewell after a 31-hour-long rescue operation. The people of Ajitgarh village were constantly helping the rescue team,” said a senior official of Sikar police.

The victim, identified as Babita, fell into the borewell in Mitramandal colony while she was playing with other children, they said.
