The first day of the session in the Upper House which was dedicated to discuss the problems of sugar cane growers, witnessed several rounds of verbal duels between the ruling party and the Opposition members on various other topics.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa said farmers were disappointed and their protests will no longer be carried out with peace and patience. V S Ugrappa and other Congress MLCs raised an objection, and charged that Eshwarappa was issuing an instigating statement.

Another round of chaos prevailed when Eshwarappa said Siddaramaiah becoming the chief minister was like winning a lottery. Vijay Shankar of BJP advised the government to form special teams to find a permanent solution to the problems of sugar cane growers. As the sugar cane issue dominated the day, 15 listed questions were adjourned to next Monday.

Raising objection to the presence of a huge police force in and around the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, JD(S) MLC B Ramakrishna asked, “Is it the Emergency?” It was difficult to get here due to the heavy police presence . Do we really need so many policemen here?” he asked.
