According to Government Railway Police (GRP) sources here, the victim, identified as Alka Rani, lodged a first information report when the train reached Kanpur alleging that Jyoti Kumar, a Congress MLC from Bihar, and her security guards Upendra and Vimal, “assaulted” her on the running train.

Alka, an engineer with Wipro, alleged that at midnight, the gunners of the MLC “misbehaved” and “assaulted” her in B-1 coach of the train. “The coach attendant admonished the guards after I shouted, but they continued to misbehave with me and even flaunted their political connections,” she alleged.

Brutal assault
Alka said the guards later returned with the MLC, who was travelling in A-5 coach. She went a step further and assaulted Rani brutally. “I was shoved, beaten, my clothes were torn and I began to bleed also,” a visibly shaken Rani said showing injury marks on her face.

Other passengers in the compartment confirmed that the gunmen had misbehaved with the engineer, GRP sources said. They also shouted slogans against the politician.

“A case has been registered and Upendra, the security guard, has been arrested. The matter is being investigated,” Ikhlaq Ahmed, Circle officer, Kanpur GRP, told Deccan Herald. However, the MLC was allowed to continue her journey.

“If need be, the MLC may also booked depending on the evidence against her,” Ahmed added. Vimal, the other security guard, however, escaped, he said.

However, the MLC refuted all allegations and instead charged the Wipro engineer with “misbehaving” with her initially. “In fact, the engineer misbehaved with me and my gunmen and threatened to have them arrested,” Jyoti alleged. The train was held up at Kanpur railway station for over an hour after the incident.
